The first time my older son asked me if I had a Venmo account, I honestly replied that I had no idea what he was talking about. The second time he asked me if I had a Venmo account, I lied and said that I did not. Why would I lie to a child I love more than life itself?
Because Venmo makes it waaaay too convenient to transfer money. College age children can be remarkably expensive and giving them super easy access to your bank account might not be something you want to do. I kept my Venmo account secret for almost a year. It was easy to keep secret because my son assumes I am an idiot when it comes to anything relating to technology. I finally had to fess up when it was convenient for me. It was a choice between immediately paying a friend of his for some used furniture or going to IKEA and buying all new. So I venmoed the money and my secret was out.
And I have been quickly and conveniently sending my son money ever since.
