Wine Country on Netflix is a movie about how women grow up together and in the process sort of grow into each other. No one is perfect. We’re all irritating and irritated. We overreact to things that don’t matter and underreact to things that are majorly important. But when we figure out what we’ve done, and if we are lucky, our friends will be there to help us figure out how to reset out trajectories and get ourselves set on new, hopefully better paths.
Wine Country is about how lucky we are to be women and have women friends. I don’t know how men run their friendships. I know how they run their wars and their boardrooms and their spy rings and their seemingly endless super hero journeys. But their friendships? I have no idea. Is that movie Tag close to the truth? I only watched it for Jeremy Rimmer so I don’t remember that much about it.
Anyway, I thought Wine Country was great. Felicia watched it at her house and I watched it at mine and we texted each other the parts we thought were funny. Also, Maya Rudolph just keeps getting better and funnier. And no one is funnier than Rachel Dratch. When they were wheeling her around in that desk chair and the look of sheer determination on her face…I’m laughing now just thinking about it.
Give it a whirl, I think you’ll like it.
